Dr. Moyes' journey began with a simple question: Do I have to choose?
Growing up, he loved science—the precision of chemistry, the elegance of physics, the wonder of the cosmos. He also loved God. But everywhere he looked, people told him these two loves were incompatible.
“Smart people don't believe in God,” his professors said.
“Science has disproven the Bible,” his textbooks implied.
“Faith is for people who can't handle reality,” his peers concluded.
So he set out to investigate. Not to defend a predetermined conclusion, but to follow the evidence wherever it led.
First, he studied Chemistry. He learned how molecules interact, how elements combine, how the periodic table reveals elegant order. The more he learned, the more he saw design in the details.
Then, he studied Medicine. He became an ophthalmologist—an eye surgeon. He learned the staggering complexity of the human eye: the lens, the retina, the optic nerve, the 137 million photoreceptor cells working in concert. He marveled at the system he was privileged to repair—a system so intricate it points beyond mere chance.
Finally, he studied Theology. Not to “get religious credentials,” but to understand the other half of the conversation. What does Scripture actually say about creation? How did the early church interpret Genesis?
What he discovered surprised him: Science and faith were never enemies. They were always partners.
